MICHAEL ADAM


 

Michael Adam is a Vice-Chair at the B.C. Labour Relations Board. He has worked in a wide variety of labour relations and labour and employment law positions. From 2005 to 2007, he was a Director of Labour Relations for Weyerhaeuser Company, with responsibility for labour negotiations and grievance administration throughout the Western U.S. From 2001 to 2005, Michael was first an associate and later a partner in the Labour and Employment Law Practice Group at Alexander Holburn Beaudin & Lang in Vancouver. From 1999 to 2001, he was a Labour Relations Advisor at Forest Industrial Relations Ltd., representing coastal forest companies in labour relations and grievance arbitration matters. Finally, from 1996 to 1999, he was a labour and employment law specialist at the firm Lidstone Young Anderson, acting for local government clients in areas of labour relations, labour arbitration, collective bargaining, human rights and occupational health and safety matters. He was called to the B.C. Bar in 1996, after clerking with the B.C. Supreme Court. Before law school, he worked as a research analyst for both the Hospital Employees’ Union and the Health Sciences Association conducting collective bargaining and grievance arbitration research and analysis.

Michael graduated from U.B.C. Law School in 1994, and from U.B.C. Commerce (Honours) in 1989, specializing in industrial relations. He has Negotiation and Mediation Certificates from the Justice Institute of B.C., where he has worked as an instructor.
