Linda Huebscher has been the Legal and Legislative Representative at the Alberta office of the Canadian Union of Public Employees since 1996. After obtaining her law degree from Queen’s University, Ms. Huebscher worked for the Deputy Minister of Labour in Ontario, and mediated grievances for the Ontario Public Service Employees Relations Board. Ms. Huebscher then became general counsel for the International Brotherhood of Teamsters in Ontario for five years.
Prior to attending law school, Ms. Huebscher was deeply involved in her own local union as president, responsible for bargaining of collective agreements and their administration. Ms. Huebscher’s current practice involves the entire gamut of labour relations issues from certification, unfair labour practices, to grievance arbitration, professional licensing body hearings, and human rights issues.
Ms. Huebscher has participated in both the Governor-General’s Study Conference and the Duke of Edinburgh Commonwealth Study Conference which provide a forum for employer and union representatives to examine the human aspects of industrial relations issues in Canada and in the Commonwealth nations.
Ms. Huebscher teaches labour law for the Labour College of Canada. She has also been Alberta Vice-President of the Canadian Association of Labour Lawyers, served two terms as a Senator for the University of Alberta Senate and sits on the Alberta government’s Arbitration Roster Committee. Ms. Huebscher is a member of both the Ontario and Alberta bars, and obtained her Masters in Laws from the University of Leicester in 2004. |
