Iyer practices law at Heenan Blaikie in Vancouver representing employers in human
rights, Charter law, and administrative law matters. She was called to the Ontario
Bar in 1988 and the B.C. Bar in 1994 after receiving her LLB from the University
of Toronto in 1986. She also received an LLM from Harvard University in 1989.
Nitya was a full-time member of the British Columbia Human Rights Tribunal from
1997 to 2000. In the fall of 2001, Nitya was appointed to sit as an independent
task force to study the merits of pay equity legislation for B.C.'s private sector,
and make recommendations to the legislature. Nitya has written extensively on
topics in the area of human rights and Charter equality rights, and has developed
an intensive two-day workshop on advance decision-writing for administrative adjudicators.
