NITYA IYER

Nitya Iyer practices law at Lovett & Westmacott in Vancouver, representing employers in human rights, Charter and administrative law matters. Nitya was a full-time member of the British Columbia Human Rights Tribunal from 1997 to 2000. In the fall of 2001, Nitya was appointed to conduct an independent task force to study the merits of pay equity legislation for B.C.’s private sector, and made recommendations to the legislature.  Since 2004, she has been the Equal Pay Commissioner of the Northwest Territories. Nitya has written extensively on human rights and Charter equality rights, and also teaches workshops on reasoning and writing.

Nitya was called to the Ontario Bar in 1988 and the B.C. Bar in 1994 after receiving an LL.B. from the University of Toronto in 1986. She also received an LL.M. from Harvard University in 1989.
