Lyle
Kanee joined the union-side firm of Sack Goldblatt Mitchell in Toronto on January
1, 2004. Before moving to Toronto, Lyle was the managing partner of the Edmonton
law firm of Chivers Kanee Carpenter. After graduating from the University of
Toronto Faculty of Law in 1980, Lyle articled with the Edmonton law firm of Witten
Binder where he practiced civil litigation as an associate and partner until 1990.
In 1990, Lyle joined Chivers Kanee Carpenter, a boutique labour-side firm. Lyle
has served as a sessional instructor in labour law and labour arbitration at the
University of Alberta, and has presented papers on labour issues at numerous conferences
and workshops. Lyle was a participant in the 1995 Governor General's Canadian
Study Conference and served as Alberta Vice-President of the Canadian Association
of Labour Lawyers. In addition to general labour law, Lyle has experience in pension
and benefits issues and maintains an extensive practice of disability insurance
claims. Lyle also represents employees in the non-unionized environment. In 1999,
Lyle was awarded the Suzanne Mah Award by the Alberta Human Rights Commission
for his role in prioritizing the principles and ideals of human rights in the
practice of law. |
