| Laura Lozanski is the Canadian Association of University Teacher's (CAUT) National Occupational Health and Safety Officer, and represents the Association on the Health, Safety and Environment Committee for the Canadian Labour Congress. She works closely with other campus unions to ensure that all campus health and safety issues are addressed as effectively as possible. Laura began her working life in a copper-wiring plant to fund nursing training at Loyalist College in Belleville. For 16 years prior to joining CAUT, Laura was a servicing representative for several unions and was a Study Co-ordinator on the Transplant Unit at the University Hospital in London, Ontario. Laura began her union involvement as the Health and Safety/Education/WCB Co-ordinator for SEIU Local 183 and then CAW Local 830 for 15 years. As a servicing representative, she organized new worksites, and provided collective bargaining and grievance handling services. As an Organizer for the Alberta Union for Public Employees (AUPE), she was responsible for assisting with provincially-ordered workplace votes.
Laura has served as President of her local labour council, held various positions including 1st VP on her local union executive, been a labour-education facilitator for a decade at the Canadian Labour Congress annual Winter school, served as the labour representative on the Belleville General Hospital, the Hastings-Prince Edward District Health Council and Quinte United Way, was the Chief Marshall for eight of the Ontario Days of Action, and is a Certified Instructor with the Workers Health and Safety Centre. |
