JITESH MISTRY


 

Jitesh Mistry is a union-side labour lawyer at Black Gropper in Vancouver, B.C.  He has represented and advised a variety of public- and private-sector unions including the education, health, forestry, pulp and paper, and office and professional industries.  Jitesh has appeared in collective agreement arbitrations, Labour Relations Board applications, human rights tribunal hearings, as well as in trials and judicial review applications at the B.C. Supreme Court and the B.C. Court of Appeal. He has also represented clients in matters before the Federal Court of Canada and the Supreme Court of Canada.

Jitesh is the Vice-Chair of the Labour Subsection of the Canadian Bar Association of B.C. and has previously acted as the Labour Law Practice Advisor for the South Asian Bar Association of B.C.  Jitesh has also presented papers and seminars on a host of issues, including union liability arising out of job action, organizing, privacy and freedom of information, harassment and bullying, and issues surrounding disabled employees.

Prior to becoming a lawyer, Jitesh worked in NDP Government Caucus Communications in the British Columbia Legislative Assembly.  Jitesh completed his B.A. and M.A. at Simon Fraser University and attended law school at the University of British Columbia, where he was co-awarded the Raymond Herbert Award as the Best All-Round graduating student and the Blakes Prize in Labour Law.
