| Otto Peter is the Manager of Health Safety and Industrial Hygiene for General Motors of Canada. Mr. Peter is a graduate of the University of Western Ontario with a BA in Biology. He has been certified by the American Board of Industrial Hygiene in the Comprehensive Practice of Industrial Hygiene since 1985. He has served on the Board of the Occupational Hygiene Association of Ontario for over 20 years and was its President in 1999-2000. Mr. Peter was a Governor of the Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety for 8 years, ending his term in May 2008. He has been a member of the Industrial Accident Prevention Association’s Annual Conference Advisory Committee for over 5 years. He has spoken at, made presentations and done training on Occupational Health and Safety at many conferences and forums including IAPA, CCOHS, OHAO, AIHCE and the Petrochemical Forum. He has written articles for the IAPA Prevention and OHS Canada magazines and the OHAO Forum newsletters. For the last 4 years Mr. Peter has been a member of the Steering Committee for the Center for Research Expertise on Occupational Disease at St. Michael’s Hospital. In addition, he has been a member of the Federal WHMIS Current Issues Committee and the Global Harmonization System Working Group for over 5 years.
In 2004, Mr. Peter was recognized by General Motors by being presented the Frank A. Patty Award in recognition of outstanding contributions to the Industrial Hygiene Profession. Also in 2007 he was awarded the Hugh Nelson Award of Excellence in Occupational Hygiene by the Occupational Hygiene Association of Ontario in recognition of his significant long-term contribution to the advancement of occupational hygiene in Ontario. |
