| Christopher Rootham is a partner and Director of Research with Nelligan O'Brien Payne’s Ottawa office. Chris practices in the Labour Law and Employment Law groups, advising employees and trade unions with regard to labour, constitutional and administrative law issues, privacy and personal information issues. He has also prepared complaints to the Information Commissioner concerning requests under Access to Information Legislation, and has prepared materials for privacy litigation in the Federal Court.
As the Director of Research, Chris assists all lawyers and consultants with complicated legal research. He co-teaches the Employment Law course at the University of Ottawa, where he also teaches written advocacy to moot court students, and participates in the Dean's Research and Writing Fellows Program. Chris published his first book, Labour and Employment Law in the Federal Public Service, which explains the complex laws and regulations governing the federal public service in Canada. He has also published a number of articles in the Canadian Labour and Employment Law Journal on labour law, employment law, and human rights law.
Chris received his LL.B. from Queen's University in 1999, his LL.M. (Labour Law) from the London School of Economics in 2001, and was called to the Ontario Bar in 2002. After Chris clerked at the Federal Court of Appeal, he completed a Masters of Labour Law degree at the London School of Economics. He is a member of the Canadian Bar Association and the Canadian Association of Labour Lawyers. |
