Rubio is a community legal worker at the Centre for Spanish Speaking Peoples,
where she has worked for the past twenty-two years, in the areas of employment
and human rights. Over the years, she has been involved in a number of community
organizing campaigns to improve working conditions for immigrant workers, most
recently in the campaign against Bill 147, the Employment Standards Act,
2000. Consuelo is a past Vice-President of the Ontario Council of Agencies
Serving Immigrants. In her spare time, she has served on the boards of the Metro
Social Planning Council, the Kensington Bellwoods Legal Clinic, Downtown Employment
Services (now Access for New Canadians) and the Workers' Information Centre. Consuelo
is also one of the founding members of the Latin American Coalition against Racism. |
