| Louis Sokolov is a litigation partner at Sack Goldblatt Mitchell where he is head of the firm’s class action practice group. Louis is presently co-lead counsel on Canada’s largest employment class actions: Fresco v. Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce, Fulawka v. Bank of Nova Scotia and McCracken v. Canadian National Railway. He is also counsel on a number of pension and consumer class actions. In addition, Louis acts for individual employees litigating wrongful and constructive dismissal claims, advises employees in respect of workplace harassment and discrimination issues, and prepares and negotiates employment contracts and termination agreements.
Louis also specializes in public interest litigation and litigation against public authorities, particularly concerning wrongly convicted persons. Recently, he was counsel in Hill v. Hamilton-Wentworth Police Services Board before the Supreme Court of Canada which established a tort of negligent police investigation, a first in any common law jurisdiction. He is a graduate of the University of Toronto (B.A. 1987), Osgoode Hall Law School (LL.B. 1991) and is a member of the Ontario bar (1993). |
