| Scott Sweatman practises in the Pension & Employee Benefits and Tax Groups in the Vancouver and Calgary offices of Blake, Cassels & Graydon where he advises management on a variety of pension, tax, trust and benefit issues. In the pension and employee benefits area, he is involved in the establishment of plans, and in drafting, amendment, governance and funding issues, as well as in dealing with corporate mergers and acquisitions and their effect on pension and benefits. Scott was appointed in October 2007 by the British Columbia Ministry of Finance as Co-Chair of the Alberta/British Columbia Joint Expert Panel on Pension Standards. He is the past national and regional chair of the Canadian Pension & Benefits Institute and the past chair of the Pension, Benefits and Compensation Section of the Canadian Bar Association (B.C.). He has written and spoken at seminars and conferences conducted by various organizations including the Canadian Pension & Benefits Institute, the Canadian Institute, the Canadian Tax Foundation, Lancaster House and Federated Press. Prior to joining Blake Cassels, Scott was the senior manager responsible for the PricewaterhouseCoopers pension benefits and executive compensation tax practice in Vancouver and Western Canada. He received a B.A. (Honours) from the University of Winnipeg in 1983 and an LL.B. from the University of Victoria in 1986. |
